Planting Seeds of Learning in Every Child

Text Box: Age Appropriate Developmental Curriculum 

At Maybury Child Care, your child will be involved in developmentally-appropriate activities throughout each day. We place a large focus on education. Our classrooms are separated out for optimal learning experiences. This gives our teachers the chance to fully focus on the education needs of their class. Various experiences will be provided within each age group to promote 
school-readiness and development.
 
Infants (birth to 18 months)	
Visual Stimulation: bright colors, interesting shapes to observe
Social Interaction: playing and sharing with other children
Motor Skills and Muscle Development: building with blocks, shape sorting, catching and throwing
Language Development: interaction with teachers and other children
Exploring their Senses: touch, smell, taste, and hearing
Trust in Adults: relationships with caregivers

Toddlers (18 months to 2 1/2 years)
Social Interaction: playing and sharing with other children
Gaining Independence: teaching and allowing children to do things on their own, with help if needed
Learn to Explore and Experiment: discovering things in their environment and thinking about how they work
Learn to Deal with Emotions and Frustration ­ hitting, biting, and throwing
Learn Colors: match and sort
Fine Motor Skills: puzzles and blocks

Transition (2 1/2 years to 4 years)
Alphabet: learning and recognizing letters
Understanding Quantity: 1 block, 2 dolls
Exploring Senses: tasting, feeling, smelling, and hearing sounds in their environment
Language Development: understanding the most simple sentences spoken to them, learning to speak in three to five word sentences and carrying on simple conversations.

Begindergarten (4 years to 6 years) More on the Begindergarten Program
Colors and Shapes: recognizing and naming primary colors, recognizing basic shapes
Numbers: recognizing 0 to 10, using numerals 0 to 10 in counting, comparing quantities to determine more or less, identifying pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters
Language: ­experimenting with writing independently, pretending to read, listening and responding to literature being read, recognizing letters, recognizing first and last names, following simple directions
Concepts: understanding big and little, long and short, up and down, in and out, hot and cold, night and day
Motor Skills: able to run and jump, throw a ball, clap hands, build with blocks, complete simple puzzles, draw and color
Social Emotional Development: knowing home address and phone number, playing and sharing with other children, putting toys away and helping with chores, able to work independently
